amen so we're moving uh toward the the end of this session couple weeks after tonight is the plan and uh hopefully at starting to pull the pieces together um and the the general

topic for tonight is is contemporary it's the critical race Theory and black lives matter and wokeness and

stuff like that but actually I I'm I'm not intending to speak much about there there's some in your notes and you you can always look up stuff um a very good book

by a fellow by the name of Owen Sten uh it's uh called Christianity and wokeness uh and it's it's good um and

it's not um it it seems to be well considered but what I want to talk about is really the the uh the underlying if I could use the yeah

Spirit uh that is behind these different movements and then discuss how the church's response to each of these

movements over time takes the church down into the weeds and and often leads it astray and it gets lost in the

weeds when it really should be staying above the fry but I wanted to begin with what I always consider to be a very enigmatic statement of Our Lord in um

Matthew 18 where um or is it 16 anyhow where Peter is trying to keep Jesus from going to Jerusalem and being

crucified and Jesus famously turns to him and said get behind me Satan for you do not have the interests of God in mind but the interests of man

and you know when I've read that over the years I thought well how does Satan have the interests of Man At Heart what what does he care about man reading it

in the English especially it makes it sound like you know Satan you don't care about God you care about man well Satan doesn't care about anybody it's it's it's inimical to his

personality to his nature to be caring and so that that little phrase you have the interests of man and not of God is

something that should kind of stand out like are God's interests and man's interest at opposition and Satan is taking man's side against God well no he

is The Great Deceiver That's what Satan means the the accuser he's he's an accuser and a deceiver and a liar which means he doesn't he's not looking out for the best interests of man

what he's doing is he's striving to unite Mankind in Rebellion against God so in in that sense he has he has the

and Satan standing at his right hand to accuse him to accuse him again that's just a play on words because that's what the Hebrew word Satan means to accuse

so the bottom line is Satan is not looking out for our best interests and so what does Jesus mean there well well Peter's trying to oppose Jesus in

performing that Supreme Redemptive act that would lead a portion of mankind to Salvation and so that's Satan doesn't

want that to happen because what he wants is he wants to unite Mankind in rebellion and so you know you hear a lot about conspiracy the

theories and um perhaps too much about conspiracy theories but there is one fundamental conspiracy going on and that is the prince of the power of the air

trying to undo and overturn the work of God that that is a conspiracy um and we are not we are not unaware of Satan's devices Paul says in

2 Corinthians we are aware of his schemes or are we again I think screw tape letters is a is a very good book to read on this score remembering that it

is an allegory it is not inspired but it does seem to show that Satan it it brings out the subtleness of Satan at one point Satan become

like Association has Association has become a Christian thing because when you talk to Jews right and Muslims have Satan as

well word but it was always a Christian thing yeah but but people think of when you say Satan it's immediately like Catholic or Orthodox or that's a shame um that

never wasn't a Christian thing from very early on um and it was also a Christian thing for the reformers and their heirs

so you you read about Satan in um 17th century English pamphlets and whatnot he he doesn't start to disappear until the 19th century um which is exactly not the

conspiracy is Satan and Paul doesn't mince words about what he tries to do and um that he is the the power behind the powers and

principalities is it Peter who who says he he goes about as a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour now you know you've probably heard it preached that

he he's he's got a roar but no bite okay no he's not gumming people to death okay um Jude Jude says even the Archangel Michael didn't rail against

say we we we shouldn't either overestimate or underestimate his powers but we should always recognize that he exists and even though it's not

modern and scientific to think that he does biblically he does um and also from a history uh both of religion

and of of humanity it makes sense that he does that there is a great deal of deception deception that that otherwise um man should be able to see through so

the blindness that he brings about um he said he's he's the one who holds the keys of death Hebrews talks about his his being in charge of death and so he

really is the great adversary and he is the one that Jesus came to take on and to conquer he didn't come to take on the Roman Emperor or the Empire he came to

take on the Empire of evil which is not the Soviet Union but Satan how however as we talked earlier weeks back about the powers and principalities

we ought to recognize that first that's what beh that's what's behind what we see happening in the world are the powers and principalities and at their head as

it were maybe the pope of those Powers is Satan but we also should know that his

um the range of his operation is strictly limited by God and ultimately he has already been defeated at the

cross so death no longer has its Victory death no longer has its sting but that doesn't mean Satan is out of business that he's hung up his you know he's he's

packed up and gone to Florida or something you know he is still very much in business and we should also remember thirdly that there's nothing new Under the Sun so that the the crisis or ideology

ideology dour is really just just another manifestation of the LIE however we tend as a church to roll up our sleeves and to dig

in to whatever current manifestation of deception is being foed upon the unbelieving world and in doing so much of the church

actually adopts the deception every time they they Ally themselves with the deception because the best truths and you are the best lies and you you've got

to assume that Satan being the most subtle of God's creature is is the best liar and the best lies will always have a visible amount of Truth in

them and he's a past Master at that and so we're going to talk in some detail about what those lies look like and why

so many Christians are seduced and that I think that is the only word to describe what happens to Christians when these movements ideologies black lives

matter critical race Theory whether a temperance movement abolition Social Gospel Liberation theology feminism it's it's

seduction and it shouldn't take it shouldn't take a great deal of wisdom for us to realize that this is really just the

same lie in a different package especially living in our time when these things do seem to be coming along much

more rapidly um than they did in the past in terms of what what is you know what's the big deal now uh because in five years it won't be the big deal anymore there'll be something else um and and so

we ought to recognize that these are really just manifestations of the same um wickedness and so so the the conspiracy if there is you know and I think it is is to

Rebellion to essentially if it were possible and and it does seem to be that at least in in a SE segment of humanity in any generation to remove man from the

possibility of redemption to make him irredeemable now the the the classic example of this is the Tower of Babel

where God himself says what could what can they not achieve if they act together now nothing good okay but his

grace motivated him to confuse the languages because otherwise that that Unity that Union of human effort and human thought would have solidified

rebellion and sin and made man again from a human perspective irredeemable that would be the ultimate victory for Satan is for man to become

irredeemable so uniting man in sin and Rebellion again this is this is

fundamentally towerb building and why Jesus says what he says to Peter it it it the reason I think he says that is because this is what it looks like it looks like human wisdom

and human effort to bring about a new world order or a League of Nations or a United Nations it's just the tower all over

again it's the bringing together of human thought and action without reference to God without honor to God without worship to God and and ultimately without even reference to God

that that is Satan's scheme of which we are not unaware okay but we are so often unaware because his

perhaps his greatest deception is to convince such a large proportion of professing Christians that he doesn't exist and that what we really are

dealing with are government bureaucracies and politicians or liberals you know we we're that but Paul says we we're not battling against flesh

and blood I mean how how much clearer could he be than when he says we we battle not we wrestle not against flesh and blood well that's if the church were

to stand in front of a mirror especially the Western evangelicalism what are we doing we're battling against flesh and blood the weapons of our Warfare are not carnal what are we using carnal weapons

I mean we're doing we're just about doing everything that Paul says not to do and it's because of the deception of the father of lies he's got enough truth in each of

these um manifestations of his conspiracy for Christians either to come alongside and adopt it or to deny even

the truth that's contained in it they seem to be the two diametrically posed reactions either we buy into it and we're totally woke or we deny that there's any racism in our society never

has been okay neither of those are truth they're not truth positions and if they're not truth positions they cannot be positions for the church or any

believer but again we we're not really thinking in thing of in in Paul's terms um we're thinking frankly we're just afraid and most of what we do is out of

fear we're afraid that um this particular racial group or ethnic group is going to rise up and kill us in our sleep and so we better or we're afraid

that our way of life is going to be overturned and we're not going to have the Liberties that we are used to none of that is God's plan none of

that is new Humanity New Creation none of that is none of that you will find in okay so so that you know as we're coming to the to the end of this particular

study we're really coming to the end of four sessions on Pauline Theology and hopefully we're we're starting to think more like Paul and less like Talking

Heads on Fox news or CNN or even many from the pulpits and the seminaries and think like Paul

so what we're seeing today with things like critical race Theory frankly um critical race Theory and I don't know how much you know about it and I don't Advocate that you get

down in the weeds with it but it is essentially Marxism with race substituted for

economic strata okay and Marxism is simply the um the the age-old philosophy of alienation within Human Society but

Marxism is perhaps the the overarching Paradigm for modern society so we can we can look it this

Marx was himself a disciple not personally but through Reading of of Hegel Hegel was the one who said that he said many things but his his his basic

philosophy of history is that history is constantly evolving through thesis antithesis and then synthesis that synthesis then becomes

the next thesis opposition Rises up eventually there's compromise and a new an uh synthesis and that's that's Hegel well Marx takes that and he says okay

the basic structure of human society is economic conflict economic conflict conflict between those who have and those who do not the

oppressors and the oppress the capitalists and the worker okay so he defines all human interaction in terms

of economic oppression and economic stratification and ultimately the word is economic alienation well Marx's philos philosophy um is

theology very popular over the past 100 years or 70 years in Latin America the ultimate what what really matters is the political oppression of society not so much

economic now it's political okay well you know what what are the what do the women do well they're going to throw in their lot with feminist feminism and feminist

theology okay what is the fundamental alienation well it's gender and it's oppression right men oppressing women see this is what underlies it's kind of

like if you distill the argument you you come back what's left at the bottom of the of the beaker is marks okay and not grouo either it's you know it's it all comes back to

alienation and yeah well that's what it does okay so what we've added in in and it's actually about 40 40 or 50 years old critical race

also James Con in the 1960s black theology it's critical race Theory okay Human Society is fundamentally a matter of alienation what is the root cause of that alienation race economics feminism

political oppression see it's just substituting an an a word for the word alienation that Human Society manifests

itself in all of its its iterations and all of its Generations as alienation that much is actually

true and this is where conservative Christians are in error in reacting to each of these every one of these from Marx and economic oppression to the the

uh political structures of Latin America to the male dominated societies of the West and of the world to racism systemic

racism they're all true there is that form of alienation in society and not just American society or Western Society but

all societies every society has gender economic political ethnic racial

alienation okay and it's that element of truth that first of all draws one segment of Christianity toward these movements towards these ideologies and

they adopt them that's why so many churches today are adopting woke ideology because they look at our history and our current situation and they say yes there is racism in American

society never mind the fact that that the the news does tend to report what benefits the benefits the subscriptions they do not tend to report

much in in the way of of advances made Against Racism over the past Generations but it's still a reality okay and so Christians who are

sensitive um and I'll give them credit I I'll give them credit whether it's due or not because I don't know their hearts but if they're sensitive to that oppression and alienation they're drawn

to the ideology because it sounds Christian and in fact just about every one of these can be packaged in

because oppression is contrary to the gospel alienation is contrary to the gospel so you can understand why so much of the

church in each of these different Realms a large segment of professing Christian Christianity has Allied itself with the with the ideology while the rest tend to deny

that there's even a example Marxism well Marxism is predominantly

economic and communism is predominantly an economic an economic system so system so socialism is the church's alliance with Marxism and we

look at the early Church in the book of Acts and we see that they had all things in common and no one claimed to have anything of his own but they sold their possessions and gave to the poor that's

socialism conveniently ignoring what Peter says to ananas about his own property being his own property and under his own control it was not socialism it was not communism it was

benevolence a big difference but it looks like it and so many especially within the liberal Mainline denominations align themselves with

socialism against socialism against capitalism well how do the conservatives respond well capitalism is God's economy capitalism is the right way it

gives everybody gets Freedom okay capitalism is perfect capitalism is not perfect capitalism has a great deal of problem problems it just has fewer

problems than problems than communism and it is more outwardly successful but inwardly that's

debatable it's debatable whether mankind we're really not in a position to say we can say very clearly and you know and say I would rather have this as Winston Churchill said you know I would rather

have the unequal distribution of wealth in capitalism than the equal distribution of poverty in communism we can make a choice between the

two but we ought not sanctify either one okay these are World Systems these are part of the age which is passing

away does does anybody think that the new Earth is going to have either economic system or maybe it'll go back to to the Glory Days of the British

Empire mercantilism okay no it it's not going to have any of those systems will it and even if you look at the Old Testament levitical arrangement of the calendar

every 50 years all debts were cancelled right every seven years the land was to lie fallow okay so that's not

capitalism I mean it's like student loans being forgiven now I'm not I'm not an advocate of that I'm just saying well biblically if you happen to graduate in

people should be forgiven their loans I'm not saying that I'm just saying that the system of Economics the system of male female relationships of ethnic relationships of political systems

belong ons to this age whatever age it may be because you know capitalism wasn't always the economic system of the West and those systems that once were

have passed away they're not here anymore and in fact it's it's quite arguable from an economic standpoint that what we have is not capitalism either not in its 19th century form it's

definitely changed than what it was so these things are changing all the time but what happens is the church looks at these movements and each of these

movements is a movement of deconstruction let's take apart the society that tradition has given us this

is the society that we have grown up in our F our parents our grandparents maybe not our great-grandparents you know they change but the change

usually is is so slow that that any individual generation doesn't really see it you got to go back and look at history to see that for example the East

India Company was not a capitalist organization it was a Mercantile Monopoly that's a completely different system 300 years ago okay or 200 years

ago so things do change we don't like that we don't like change and we don't like the instability

of deconstructionists people who want to cancel culture for example well depending on what the culture is I might push the cancel button too but I don't even know really what what

that all entails and I really haven't gotten down into the weeds but the point is people who talk like that people for example gender

shorted the idea of coring man just the right place to where the Judgment of God is tool strikes me that that's a very mechanistic way of looking at almighty God who shows us throughout his patience

tower building is fundamentally it it it looks like construction we're building a new world order we're building a tower that will reach up to heaven but actually that

build what is a worse one and that's really the progression of all human society and we ought to know that because Paul tells us that in Acts 17 that God has appointed the boundaries in

deconstructive and that's that's kind of a modern world deconstructionists um mostly 20th century French century French philosophers um

were the philosophers who who were basically the deconstructionist you just you just tear apart you don't build anything you just tear apart because there's evil in every human structure

Arabia that's been a mess with to Syria to Lebanon and you will see to Afghanistan Pakistan you see that the lot of wom in

the and women in these countries has gone down precipitously in terms of their um you can't even use the word equality their status relative to men

okay they are to feminist victims the irony is they they don't actually count as victims to Modern Western feminists

even though they are more victimized now than they were in their own countries 15 years ago it's really it shows that truth is not part of all of this but
