excursus this morning I think I've struggled to figure out exactly where to put this we've talked about a number of different aspects as we've been talking about

things to come however as I was going through these things and have been sort of collecting these bits as I've been studying I felt like we need to spend a little time talking

law the creative action of God in law what do we mean when we say law does anybody want to Define law for me

I mean Paul has something in mind when he says the law not enough time for the coffee to have worked huh worked huh I mean what is the law if I say it's

against the law what do I mean do's and don'ts um regulations right law in general

to know them right so there's there's a lot of things entailed in just the the word law law in in the sense that we often read it in scripture refers to the law usually appended

of God to Israel and to all who would come in but there is also the larger concept of human law that we've just

briefly touched on you know if we say it's against the law we're talking about rules and regulations that have been established by an authority in this case a government right so rules and regulations established by an authority

creation mandate is sometimes pointed to as one of the first laws or the first uh promulgated commands to man to procreate to subdue the Earth there's

also law in Genesis 9. we can turn to Genesis 9 and look at God's commands to Noah as he stands at the beginning of a kind of recreation and God gives him

I think the logic that she builds on here is very helpful for for picking apart sort of the the thorniness of this particular term and the way it's often deployed so I'm going to follow her logic a little bit with with some things

added in as we move forward but law there's often sort of two meanings to law as it is used in general Society putting aside the law of Moses as we

think about it in the church context but one of those and she uses the term arbitrary arbitrary regulation by human consent made in particular circumstances

without it altering the universe right so there is a speed limit that is a law a law the government can choose to alter the speed limit and it does not affect the

universe in any particular other than by human behavior right and it may not even affect that depending on how well it's enforced which is a concept in law if if law is not enforced it is effectively no

law at all so we can talk in that sense about Roman law in a historical context we can

talk about laws of civilized Warfare we can talk about laws we call them usually rules rules of the game the Women's World Cup is going on at the moment there's rules that govern how the game
