0:04
okay well welcome to the law is good if one uses it lawfully session 14 um as I've been thinking about sort of how to end this particular part of the series um I should just say upfront
0:17
that I I I don't I don't think it makes a whole lot of sense for me to enter past chapter six um partially because 6 through 11 as as you've gotten to hear
0:28
all at one go uh is very much a cohesive whole um even a lot of the same language uh and so to start in and go part way doesn't seem to me to be all that
0:39
profitable what does seem profitable is to stop here at the Ten Commandments and really do our discussion about the lawful use of the law um Paul warns in
0:53
first Timothy about those who style themselves teachers of the law um who make he says uh conf assertions about things of which they are ignorant um you don't hear a whole lot
1:06
of confident assertions about you shall not boil a young goat in its mother's milk that's not the kind of you don't hear a bunch of confident assertions about that what you do hear confident assertions about is often The Ten
1:17
Commandments you'll hear confident assertions concerning applicability to society and rightly so of you shall not murder or you shall not steal but also
1:28
within the life of the church which is my main concern you know confident assertions about images about the Sabbath day and and what those things mean so how I undertake to teach the law
1:42
in front of you obviously I've been suitably warned by our brother Paul um but but how how we teach and apply the the law Among Us is obviously of great
1:53
importance the alternative is uh myths quarrels uh shipwreck of Faith um these are very stern warnings about uh lightly
2:05
entering upon an application of the law to God's people who are not under law but under
2:15
grace so it seems to me that the Ten Commandments are an excellent place to discuss the legal use of the law uh for us among us among ourselves um so we'll we'll camp out uh
2:26
for the remainder of the series uh there um I should say at the outset that I have no intention of teaching the 10
2:36
words as a with with the main thrust being here's how this applies to you um I really don't have any interest in doing that partially because it's Tim
2:48
frog that said it this way he said this this is really the basics uh of the law they're pretty self-evident as to how they apply to as Paul says the
2:58
unrighteous and the disob obedient okay we're wondering how how it is that we meet them and gain from them what God has has given us in them um so uh I'll
3:11
we'll we'll read first um I actually would would ask and encourage that you not turn with me in your Bibles um because given that these are so familiar and even the even plenty of people who
3:23
are not our Brethren would would know at least two or three of them uh Without Really breaking a sweat so familiar that I do aim to kind to kind of dis slightly
3:34
disrupt your level of comfort uh with it in order that we might examine it aresh so I'll be reading actually in this case from Young's literal uh because it it is
3:46
different from some of the traditional formulations and can hopefully help us to hear hear a little bit more uh widely or completely so this is how he says
3:58
it and Moses calleth unto all Israel and saith unto them he Israel the statutes and judgments which I am speaking in your ears today and ye have learned them
4:09
and have observed to do them Yahweh Our God made with us a covenant in HB not with our fathers hath Yahweh made this Covenant but with us we these here today
4:23
all of us alive face to face hath Yahweh spoken to you in the mount out of the midst of the fire I am standing between Yahweh and
4:34
you at that time to declare to you the word of Yahweh for you have been afraid from the presence of the fire and you have not gone up into the mountain
4:45
saying I Yahweh thy God who hath brought thee out from the land of Egypt from a house of house of servants thou Hast no other gods in my
4:56
presence thou Dost not make to thee a Graven image any similitude which in the heavens above and which in the earth beneath and which in the waters under
5:06
the Earth thou us not bow thyself down to them nor serve them for I Yahweh thy God a zealous God charging iniquity of
5:16
fathers on children and on a third and on a fourth to those hating me and doing kindness to thousands to those loving me
5:26
and to those keeping my commands th not take up the name of Yahweh thy God for a vain thing for Yahweh does not acquit him who taketh up his name for a vain
5:38
thing observe the day of the Sabbath to sanctify it as Yahweh thy God hath commanded thee six days thou US Labor and Hast done all thy Work and the
5:50
seventh day a Sabbath to Yahweh thy God thou Dost not do any work thou and Thy Thy son and thy daughter and thy man servant and thy handmade and thine ox
6:02
and thine ass and all thy cattle and thy Sojourner who within thy Gates so that thy manservant and thy handmade doth rest like
6:12
rest like thyself and thou Hast remembered that a servant thou has been in the land of Egypt and Yahweh thy God is bringing thee out then by a strong hand and by
6:22
stretched out arm therefore has Yahweh thy God commanded thee to keep the day of the Sabbath honor thy father and thy mother as Yahweh thy God commanded thee so that
6:34
thy days are prolonged and so that it is well with thee on the ground which Yahweh thy God is giving to thee thou Dost not murder thou Dost not commit
6:45
adultery thou Dost not steal thou Dost not answer against thy neighbor a false testimony thou Dost not desire thy neighbor's wife nor Dost thou covet thy
6:56
neighbor's house his field and his manservant and his handmade his Ox his ass and anything which is thy neighbors these words hath Yahweh spoken
7:07
unto all your assembly in the mount out of the midst of the fire of the cloud and of the thick Darkness a great voice and he hath not added and he writeth
7:18
them on two tables of stone and giveth them unto
7:30
me a few introductory thoughts thoughts uh about this as I thought about so you'll notice the heading in your outline there the first one is the laws I taught it to my children um because I
7:41
think I think in that in this in in this sense the experience with my own children I perhaps you'll agree if you have children that are maybe farther along than mine as well um that there
7:55
there is an applicability within the home your children under your love that illustrates uh starts to illustrate
8:06
the rightful use of the law for the family of family of God Early Childhood is full of prohibitions do not handle do not taste do not
8:17
do not touch uh but we sincerely hope and pray that our children will grow up into maturity okay living by wisdom and understanding rather than by rules that
8:28
they put childish ways behind them as they come into adulthood we want them to know God and love him not merely refrain from
8:38
sin so with such maturity in mind we aim to sew within them the seeds of that wisdom and maturity and understanding that we want them to have taking
8:48
opportunities presented by moments of childish discipline to impress upon them the revelation of God himself that undergirds our rules in other words and
8:58
I'm going to appro rate Paul's words here in other words our aim in teaching any of our our home statutes to our children is to instill the sound Doctrine behind it right we'd be
9:11
unsatisfied if they were merely uh a bunch of soldiers that simply follow the rules we want them to learn wisdom and the same is true I believe when it comes to the the law as given to us in the
9:23
scriptures of which there is significant overlap with any rules we have in our home um home um so what I want to do is look at the lesson behind the 10 words um so that as
9:36
we're looking at the most basic of God's statutes uh here rehearsed to these little ones as he calls them as their fathers called them in the Wilderness at
9:47
the outset of his instructions these little ones about to come into their inheritance think then as as he is urging them to regard their God and love
10:00
him uh we we ought to then examine those lessons for lessons for ourselves so um you may I'll I'll have a a diagram and a table of these things uh
10:13
later on but I didn't publish that because I want the discussion to be more uh more open um and and include suggestions of um the lesson behind the
10:25
10 words from y'all as well so I don't want to just give you what I I think uh right off the bat up front I'd rather hear uh some so um starting in uh verse
10:37
six of chapter 5 we have what I'm what I'm actually calling uh the F the first
10:56
wanted which is I
11:19
Yahweh who brought you out of the house of slavery in counting the commands which I think is is part
11:29
a thing because of the the emphasis that the romanist have put on it they they number the Commandments um in such a way in in order to make a point or to rather
11:43
diminish the point about carved images um but the commands are not numbered uh in hopefully they're not numbered in your translation I I I think that would
11:54
be wrongheaded because they're not numbered in the Hebrew um and I I am curious have has anyone ever counted the number of number of statements in the 10 words they are
12:05
called the 10 words I'm not denying that but has anyone counted the number of statements I got okay ever think about that I got
12:18
12 I got 12 statements bother anyone kind of bothered me a little bit cuz I'm going to sit there tap on the 10 words and I
12:30
go I mean I'm trying what I'm trying not to do is come at this and be like yeah yeah we all know this let's just sort of work through it perfunctorily and then we can move on to the good stuff this is important I counted 12 statements
12:42
starting with I am Yahweh your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt out of the house of slavery um I got 12 uh has anyone ever counted the the number
12:55
of prohibitions you thought about the number of the commands or statements that are prohibitive versus those that are positively
13:06
are positively made it ever struck you that the that most of the 10 words are prohibitions I counted the number of prohibitions there's
13:21
10 I don't know if that's why they're called the 10 words I'm just want to mention that mention that um so in that in that I have found what I think I think to be 12 statements and
13:31
only two of them are unmixed positive statements because the the command of the Sabbath day is you shall observe it but you shall not do any ordinary work
13:42
so there's a ad mixture of of prohibition and positive teaching yes I
14:09
Sone you will not fight your sister you as part of your identity we as the people Redeemed by God will not do will observe these it's a very different tone
14:20
saying don't do that right and I think I think you're you're already starting to get at the heart of of what I would say is the the legal use of the law and and right I think the phrasing here is helpful it is more you shall not you
14:33
must uh and and I I I think that that does start to touch on it a lot so in trying to catalog them when I say the I'm going to say the first rubric and the second rubric I I am not here trying
14:45
to renumber the commands and you know to teach some new way what I am doing is trying to give you a pneumonic for understanding the lesson behind the commands and you can take or leave my
14:57
pneumonic this is just how I thought of it I am Yahweh your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt out of the house of slavery and then what everybody sort of recognizes at least is within the First Command whether whether uh no
15:09
matter which tradition you're coming from verse 7 you shall have no other gods besides me so what is the lesson behind you shall have no other gods
15:29
anyone this should be a softball all right well I'll give you what I what I think maybe we'll get the
15:44
SS remember this is the law as I told it to my children you have to tell them this did at some point did were you told there is only one God of course you were okay how would you know
16:00
that yes it's interesting to me if you look over the history of Israel as a people this is one of the ones they trip over the most uh
16:11
yeah and yet in various formulations of modern Judaism it's the one thing that they are constantly trying to swing at Christians is we're monotheist and you
16:23
aren't right yeah you're not real monotheists because of your doctrine of the Trinity it's interested because they fell into specifically idolatry but the but the worship of other gods and Moses
16:35
Moses gives us a sense for the lesson Behind These commands anyway uh in his teaching in vers in chapter 6 verse 4-5 is what the Lord calls the first and
16:46
greatest commandment here o Israel Yahweh Our God Yahweh is one okay you shall love Yahweh your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with
16:58
all your might Paul interestingly enough gives us uh in 1 Corinthians 8 a very interesting take on this statement that was for the Jews
17:09
is called the schma it's here okay and and it is repeated and treasured uh by them he gives us what I think is a very interesting take on on the shma in light
17:20
of the revelation of Jesus Christ he says for although there may be so-called gods in heaven or on Earth as indeed there are many gods and many lords yet
17:32
for us there is one God the father from whom are all things and for whom we exist and one Lord Jesus Christ through
17:43
whom are all things and through whom we exist so in answer to the Jews uh objection no you're not going to get
17:54
your head around christology sorry uh but here but but Paul goes back to the schma to this idea there is only one God he says there is only one God and one
18:05
Lord of all Humanity
18:27
didn't um I would I would take it to be that oh go ahead please um I haven't looked at it recently but almost certainly the Hebrew there is is Li which means it literally means in front of me or before me okay sometimes
18:38
used translated as presence in my presence but it literally means in front of me you won't you won't put this in my face in any way and and I would it means
18:49
both literally before or in front of yeah not be contrary but I almost feel
19:00
like he's almost monism for a different discuss the thing they to know right now is kind of Paul statement even if there are other gods that is irrev I am your
19:13
God I am the one who did
19:42
well and and I have to clarify what what I'm getting at is and I'm being very specific in my prepositions here that this is what lies in my opinion behind the command not what issues from the
19:55
command I think for us that our path needs to be to understand the wisdom out of which the command
20:06
grows so it is the lesson behind the go ahead what seems to lie behind what's saying the personal relationship
20:30
people that's fair it seems like it's saying there is other gods to say there's only one God well only true that's true but there's other gods right
20:42
he I'm the only one should worship it's not saying only one God say I'm the only one should one should worship think
20:59
emphasis that that there is that I'd have to go back if I remember rightly those significant portions of the early discourse that leads this in Exodus that
21:12
I am the one who brought you out of Egypt is a fairly consistent refrain I don't remember how many times one of the points there for them is you saw all of the Gods of I'm the
21:25
one who brought you out right additionally I don't of the ancient egyptology but we see it even up to Paul's day there was a tendency to go oh well there's a God for X just like
21:36
there's a saint for X we'll just drag that under the pantheon of the big God and draw in these subg goods for our various needs and presumably the
21:47
attitude of the Egyptians toward Yahweh were it not for the specific name that Moses was given which was meant to militate against this was sure we'll take HEB the Hebrews God and put him in
21:58
his proper place and are you want another God to worship we are all for that uh say the Egyptians all the time uh I was going to say something very similar just going back to your your
22:10
comment that this is Moses talking to the people and reminding them their children these are things they saw but their children would not have seen yeah so
22:21
that I am your God who brought you out of Egypt the younger well what would be now be the older Israelites as children would have seen the hand of God
22:32
defeating all those making those other gods impoc bringing the Israelites out but they're supposed to teach their children what they saw yes and so I I agree with what Abigail
22:44
said that's the ding force behind that okay I'm gonna I'm gonna push on here because there is more obviously that's not the only teaching behind the 10
22:55
words you shall not make for yourself a carved image or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above or that is on the earth beneath or that is in the water under the Earth You shall not bow
23:06
down to them or serve them for I Yahweh your God am a jealous God visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me but showing steadfast
23:18
love to thousands of those who love me and keep my
23:51
right right he yes there there's a there's a movement toward their worship uh almost immediately and that is because he is a living God
24:15
who brought you out of Egypt what you were saying what you were saying I did something you saw it I brought you I chose you as a people so in other words we are his creation his workmanship and
24:26
the flip side of that is he is not not our creation so the application for briefly being we worship the Living God as he
24:36
wishes to be worshiped there's no such thing as worshiping the The God Who is our creator with the work of our own hands as he as he remarks in the teaching previously looked at in in
24:47
chapter 4 we saw that he his purpose was to illustrate to them that they you are my workmanship therefore you shall not make workmanship ship of your own and
24:59
bow down to that okay you are my workmanship and again the implication being we wiship we we worship the Living God as he wishes to be worshiped not as
25:10
we wish not according to the works of our hands or our own minds Paul again I think helps us here in 2 Corinthians 6 16-18 what agreement has the temple of
25:21
God with Idols for we are the Temple of the Living the Living God as God said I will make my dwelling among them and walk among them and I
25:31
will be their God and they shall be my people therefore go out from their midst and be separate from them says the Lord and touch no unclean thing then I will welcome you and I will be to you a
25:44
father and you shall be Sons and Daughters to me says the Lord
25:54
Almighty so I think it might be getting getting somewhat to a to a meeting of moving toward a meeting of the mon
26:07
there verse 11 you shall not misuse the name of Yahweh your God for Yahweh will not hold him Guiltless who misuses his name I I chose my word there because um if if you were raised in an Evangelical
26:18
context you probably I I know this was the case for me my impression of taking God's name in vain was was something of a special category of of you know what
26:28
you said you know saying golly gosh was you know the that's in I didn't know what the heck taking in vain means it's just it sort of stood by itself in its own column as you know don't say you
26:40
know make sure you put the sh on the end of the of the original phon so that you you don't get in trouble with your parents but the but the sense is the misuse or as young uh said uh take the
26:53
name of Yahweh your God for a vain thing for that which is empty um any thoughts on uh the wisdom behind this yeah I think I
27:06
think what we
27:31
idew the wi oft you can say you can take all the good words and say something V and Blas
27:43
of sure but is there more to it than just our
28:11
yeah not yes I agree that that the adding to his words or taking away from them is is under the ban uh here but even more behind that in
28:22
in in my own teaching in my own
29:00
yes most likely will not get right no I I absolutely agree with that that that that is a an application of of this prohibition uh but behind it is the the teaching that our God has
29:14
spoken and we can know his will did you have a comment I was just going to say that if we attach the lord's name to to anything that we think or intend to do
29:29
that we don't have to have some type of religious formula or ceremony right we don't have to shave our hair you know be a Nazarite or whatever that's what he's
29:40
getting at is if you attach my name to a vain thing it is fundamentally I think a is correct it's fundamentally a not yes you've attached the honor and
29:52
dignity of the Lord to yourself and now you will you will blashe my uh Yuri and then
30:16
Ariel that's a fair point yes the replacement of Yahweh with with Kem or or with Adonai in the written record yeah yeah um having having completely
30:28
misunderstood what is behind it would you clarify that statement I will yes so the the Jews uh at least in their tradition predating the the um the time of
30:41
Christ's Ministry by a couple hundred years um have in their written Hebrew they began to substitute the vowel
30:51
pointing for the their word for Lord or Master Adonai into the con for what we write as Yahweh um so that's
31:03
how we got the the term Jehovah uh that that you'll see that the the vowel pointing was put with the wrong consonants so that they would not pronounce uh the name um as I understand
31:17
it and then when modern Jews when when speaking it will say Hashem I think meaning the name that right okay meaning the name instead of even saying Adonai
31:29
and certainly not that um so my pronunciation of of this uh I would take it to be offensive to uh to any practicing Jew some of them will go so
31:40
far as in Modern English formulations to put G and then a dash rather than write out the word god at
31:55
all does doesn't know what you're thinking right so it it end up you know even being in in English like like that um consonants only um but like I said I
32:06
think such things get far a field of what we're supposed to know that is that is behind these things um that that that God has actually spoken is uh not only
32:19
an historical fact but an immense and amazing historical fact okay we've again carefully studied Moses prior teaching that when when Yahweh gathered the
32:30
people to him his purpose was for them to hear his words to hear his voice hey for their doing them um elsewhere in Deuteronomy this is uh Deuteronomy 8 um
32:42
18-22 I will raise up for them a prophet like you from among their brothers and I will put my words in his mouth and he shall speak to them all that I command him and whoever will not listen to my
32:54
words that he shall speak in my name I my myself will require it of him but the prophet who presumes to speak a word in my name that I have not commanded him to speak or who speaks in the name of other
33:07
gods that same Prophet shall die and if you say in your heart how may we know the word that Yahweh has not spoken when a prophet speaks in the name
33:18
of Yahweh if the word does not come to pass or come true that is a word that Yahweh has not spoken the prophet has spoken it presumptuously you need not be afraid of
33:30
afraid of him Paul again helps us here to to see the full Import in in light of Jesus revelation of himself in
33:41
Galatians 1 6-9 I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting him who called you in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel not that
33:53
there is another one but there are some who trouble you and want to Destro the gospel of Christ with the law by the way with with illegal teaching of the law I
34:05
might add okay there are some who trouble you and want to distort the gospel of Christ but even if we or an angel from heaven should preach to you a gospel contrary to the one we preach to
34:17
you let him be accursed as we have said before so I say now again if anyone is preaching to you a gospel contrary to the one you receive let him be a
34:35
cursed Paul's strongest language for speaking a word presumptuously in Christ's name um because we what we have heard from God we can know we have received
34:45
the spirit of his of God in our hearts to assure us and it is in the preaching of that gospel that we received that Spirit uh so to distort it by by any
34:58
other Proclamation uh is to uh bring down condemnation on he who does so one of the things that I always enjoy in the gospels is when Jesus cuts the Pharisees
35:10
to the Bone by saying have you not read because he's com back to say these words were written down for you yes you who teach the law haven't you read this
35:22
right yeah um haven't you read and we looked at yes uh last week um haven't you have you not read what what God said to you uh in fact um to hold them
35:33
accountable for what was written that as they sat in Moses seat they should they should have understood these things um moving forward uh verse
35:45
12-15 observe the sabbath day to keep it holy as Yahweh your God commanded you on it you shall not do any ordinary work um this is one where I I actually
35:57
want to come down as dogmatically as possible on the wisdom behind
36:07
it not that I'm averse to uh input on this but this this is the one where I'll hang my hat most
36:49
God has prepared his rest for the people of God he granted in history here released to them per the wording of Exodus and this is actually one um one command you'll see observe I think
37:00
that's right uh in Exodus he says remember they are not the same word in Exodus he told them to remember that God had granted release to them
37:11
okay here the emphasis is different so they shall treat one another in observing the day of rest excluding not even their cattle from that rest much
37:22
less their brother servants and sojourners okay I think it's beneficial to stop here for a second and and preview our forthcoming
37:33
discussion on the the use of the law for the people of Faith because here this this command to observe the sabbath day is like where all the controversy of
37:45
over the law I think really ends up focusing ultimate or the Locust of it is is here so you're never going to find I I don't think okay you're mostly never
37:57
going to find um someone saying about the law that the Ten Commandments are no longer binding or applicable and I don't endorse that language by the way um I'm
38:08
just using it because it's in the literature and in the chatter um you're not going to find people saying that the Ten Commandments are no longer binding or applicable to to the believer you'll find all kinds of exclusions of various
38:21
parts of the law uh force that that's been abrogated that's no longer binding that's no longer applicable for the believer but people don't do that with the 10 words and what's funny is that
38:35
the the whole three-fold division of the law the moral ceremonial civil will focus on the Ten Commandments as sort of the core of the moral law some will even
38:47
say it is that's it right there that's the moral law and that's what's still applicable what's kind of cool about the Sabbath day is that it's it for forms a
38:58
a locust of controversy and a fly on the ointment for that very simplistic view of the law well you know the rest of the law has been abrogated because of Jesus but the moral law still applies well you
39:10
have tons of controversy over the Sabbath day I mean the strict folks will be like well you still have to keep the Sabbath day but even then they'll have to say well that's the well the the first day of the week is the Christian Sabbath so even they change it um and
39:23
and at at worst you you have those who take exception to that chapter whatever of the Westminster Confession and and you know they just they sort of move on and don't play with that but I mean can
39:34
can you I can't wrap my head around the idea of saying the Ten Commandments are what is applicable to the believer today except that except that one that uh I it's just it's hilarious
39:49
um it's interesting that he uses so many words describe that particular I agree you compare commands Lords more
40:08
descri yes I also think that it it completes this is why I'm giving the nemonic of rubrics in the in the Commandments that have linguistic definition of of what
40:21
follows because this seems to wrap all of that up so much
40:32
now I think rather than debating whether the Ten Commandments are binding on the believer uh we should instead take notice of how in this command in particular uh the Lord has provided
40:43
through the through the language but but also just through the nature of what is being commanded here has provided a rich basis for contemplation of his gifts to mankind
40:53
God is prepared a rest for the people of God I think it's it's it would be appropriate to have our whole view of the law
41:04
affected by this uh by the by the command of the Sabbath day the Lord said to the the Pharisees who castigated him and his disciples for supposedly not
41:15
keeping the Sabbath uh said the Sabbath was made for man not man for the Sabbath okay almost as if the Lord were saying the commands were made for man not man
41:26
for the command
41:37
that you shall keep the sabath I think we come away and are often taught wrestle with how do I the Sabbath that is the question right and we're confused
41:47
because we are given Freedom through Jesus Christ and yet we have this honor of the Sabbath but the way you brought that out as remember that y'all were slaves we see it today we saw it in in
42:01
Israel that that people make slaves out of those under them and that's what's prohibited in that passage yes you know you're not
42:11
going to you're not going to rest but send your servants out right and we saw you Israel did all you know they found all kinds of workarounds you know to make other people work but they all rested on the
42:22
holy days and we see Christians do that yes like oh I go to church but you know it's a meme go to afterward and abuse the server right and it's a
42:34
terrible m i me it's a it I think speaks to the third point where our name is attached to Jesus Christ and we dishonor him in our
42:46
actions you and and God protests you were servants in Egypt and I brought you out with a mighty hand an outstretched arm therefore you shall observe the
42:58
sabbath day you and all those under you um do you have a oh that was you
43:21
okay after everything was cursed everything was a struggle everything Nam his Nam his sonah will US rest
43:44
Andre C yes
43:58
right not the
44:12
country is what we should yes yes the yes exactly I I've got four different references here that I feel like Trace in in a proper order um what's what's going on from the from the life of the
44:24
Commonwealth of Israel forward to our our life in Jesus Christ as it will be so from from Deuteronomy 15 this is verses 12-1 15 if your brother a Hebrew
44:36
a Hebrew man or a Hebrew woman sells himself to you he shall serve you six years and in the seventh year you shall let him go free from you and when you let him go free from you you shall not
44:46
let him go empty-handed you shall furnish him liberally out of your flock out of your threshing floor and out of your wine press as Yahweh your God has
44:57
blessed you you shall give to him you shall remember that you were a slave in the land of Egypt and Yahweh your God redeemed you therefore I command you
45:08
this today going forward to John 15 12-7 this is the Lord speaking to his disciples this is my
45:20
commandment this is my commandment that you love one another as I have loved you greater love has no one than this that someone lay down his life for his
45:30
friends you are my friends if you do what I command you which was love one another okay you are my friends if you
45:43
do what I command you no longer do I call you servants for the servant does not know what his master is doing I have called
45:55
you friends you friends for all that I have heard from my father I have made known to you they worth thinking about okay Paul says that that love is
46:09
the love does no wrong to neighbor therefore love is the Fulfillment of the law that and and Jesus implies his rest in these words from Hebrews uh this you
46:20
sort of referen this Jenny for if Joshua had given them rest God would not have spoken of another day later on so then there remains a Sabbath rest for the
46:31
people of people of God okay there it is for whoever has entered God's rest has also rested from his works as God did from
46:43
his and finally from Revelation 14 and another Angel a third following them saying with loud voice if anyone
46:54
worships the Beast and its image and receives a mark on his forehead or on his hand he will also drink the wine of God's Wrath by the way I I just want
47:06
you to note worships the Beast and its image and receives a mark on his hand and forhead okay which is an identification a name that's like a one two three of
47:19
the of those first 10 words okay if anyone worships the beast in its image and receives a mark on his hand or on his forehead he also will drink the
47:30
wine of God's Wrath poured full strength into the cup of his anger and he will be tormented with fire and sulfur in the presence of the Holy Angels and in the presence of the lamb and the smoke of
47:42
their torment goes up forever and ever and they have no
47:53
rest day or night these worshippers of the Beast and its image whoever receives the mark of it its name that's why I'm saying this wraps things up so much here is a call for
48:06
endurance of the Saints those who keep the Commandments of God and their faith in Jesus and I Heard a Voice from Heaven saying write this blessed are the Dead
48:17
who die in the Lord from now on blessed indeed says the spirit that they may rest from their labors for their deeds f
48:31
them hallelujah what a wonderful thing um I'm somewhat out of time here so I'll I'll do a little bit of an overlap um with the first and then and
48:42
then we'll then we'll conclude um the second rubric is also number five we'll talk about this uh in
48:53
uh next
49:09
and I want this to kind of be an and now moment for okay how shall we live together how shall we treat one another and view one another okay it's also this okay it's
49:21
also honor your father and mother
49:39
because we have one father God and we'll talk next week a little bit about this you made reference to this Ariel the there is a reciprocal aspect to this command to honor one's father and mother that Moses
49:51
will bring out later that as a man disciplines his son Yahweh has disciplined you for one thing so we have one father even God but also this this
50:02
implies what he tells them that they shall teach these things diligently to their children uh and I I want to have an Earnest discussion about that uh as well which is why only preview it and
50:14
wait but I think that and and think about this over the week and and you know talk back to me about it but I think that the honor of father and mother really sets the tone for what
50:27
remains of the commands in in that it the wisdom behind it is we have one father even God he gave us life you shall not murder he
50:37
made our bodies and gave us brothers and sisters to the end that we should produce Godly Offspring you shall not commit adultery he supplies all of our needs you shall not steal he teaches us
50:48
his truth you shall not bear false witness he grants us our inheritance you shall not shall not covet okay so we'll discuss that next week um let us pray and pray earnestly
51:00
for for me uh as well these things for those who approach them wrongly and with arrogance are a death trap uh but for us they are a blessing uh and and we pray
51:11
God's blessing on us as we learn them Father I ask that you would please guard me from error and guard us from
51:24
error please produce in Us by your spirit more and more of that love which our Lord commanded of us because we are his friends he has loved us so we are to love one
51:41
another we are helpless in our flesh to manufacture that love from the commands you have given us the mind of Christ we ask that you confirm this work
51:51
of faith that you have begun in us and we ask this in Jesus name amen
